During his first week in Arles, Vincent mentioned the Musée Réattu in a letter. He was not terribly impressed with the museum, which was named for the Arles-born painter Jacques Réattu (1760–1830):

“The women really are beautiful here, it’s no joke — on the other hand, the Arles museum is dreadful and a joke” Read the complete letter
